Billy was born and raised in rural Virginia. He relocated himself to Florida at the age of 20 and has made Fort Lauderdale his home since. His experience in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry had a humble beginning in Campbell County, Virginia, at the age of 18. His career began in the bulk milk tank and dairy equipment business; the nuts and bolts of the trade were taught to him at a business which was owned and operated by an Amish Mennonite family. This job was appointed to him by the local trade school, at which Billy completed with high scores.
After his first child was born he relocated his family to Florida, where his real education began. While recovering from the culture shock of his new surroundings he set to work learning the "business" side of the air conditioning industry. After being treated very poorly by the company that had hired him before the relocation, he found an opportunity to work with a woman who owned an air conditioning company in Boca Raton. His experience working with her prepared him for the management side of the business.
After 12 years of service that business was sold and Billy decided it was time to get his own license; he took the tools he had been given by his mentors and put them to use, and so was the beginning of Florida Air Services, in 1993.
